Itchenor Sailing Club is a RYA Recognised Training Centre accredited to run RYA certificated training courses. We outline below the RYA and Club courses we are offering this year. If you are looking for any other training please feel free to ask.
Brush up your skills
Two Day Course
Successful completion of this core course allows you to take out a club-owned 2000 unaccompanied. This two-day course covers the foundations of sailing; rigging, launching, sailing in all directions, capsize recovery and essential safety knowledge. By the end of the course successful participants will be able to sail and make decisions in good conditions. This course will be in the Club’s new fleet of RS 2000 dinghy with an RYA qualified Instructor.
Price includes use of Club 2000s, RYA Logbook and Certificate.

Improve your Dinghy Sailing
We can help improve your dinghy sailing with our team of instructors. If you are looking for a few hours or a couple of days to work on your racing techniques or to get you out of your tangles, these courses may be for you. Courses can be on your own boat or in one of ours. Contact George or Sue in the office to discuss your needs.
Two day course
If you would like to get involved with the racing scene here at ISC but are not sure how to go about it then this is the course for you. This two day course can be in your own boat or in a Club 2000 (take off £100 if using own boat). The course should give you the confidence to take part in club racing and explain how to approach a race and the techniques and rules to think about whilst on a race course.

Keelboat Crewing at ISC
One hour session
Are you keen on sailing aboard a Keelboat in our beautiful Chichester Harbour? Our experienced Rear Commodore Sailing is offering to talk through how things work on one of our racing Keelboats. The aim of the session is to give some easy tips on the racing and cover the knowledge and skills you need to have to make you welcome and useful as a crew on one of our delightful racing keelboats.

Junior Training Weeks
Five Day Course
The key aim is for the children to have lots of fun sailing and socialising with other children in a safe and supportive environment. The programme for each week will be tailored to the abilities of the children attending. This emphasis is on developing sailing independence and improving confidence on the water. For the more experienced sailor, there will be a focus on improving specific helming/crewing skills and the start of racing skills. The older children in week 2 will focus on the progression of intermediate racing skills to a higher standard. The course fee includes refreshments and all RYA certificates that are achieved.

Max Mirror Mission
Max Mirror Mission is all about fun on and off the water for both children and parents. It is a great opportunity for new and inexperienced sailors to make new friends. The aim is to head to East head for a picnic and enjoy some games. The sail there and back is tailored to suit the skills and abilities of those taking part. For some the challenge is simply to arrive while others enjoy some race training or games along the way.

Mirror & Toppers Beginner Training
Half day course
These parent led sessions are about having fun and a gentle introduction to sailing at ISC. Organised and run by the junior class captains these are an easy and informal way to get involved and make new friends. A perfect place to find a sailing partner for Junior Fortnight.

KITES (Kids in the evenings)
Two hour session
This is fun casual sailing for kids after school. We have qualified RYA instructors and rescue cover who will be here from 5pm, although don’t worry if you’re not there at 5pm on the dot! We have the use of all of the club boats, 3 RS Teras, the RS Vision and the 3 2000s. The instructors can help you rig and then take you for a sail. All you need to bring is some clothes that can get wet and a buoyancy aid if you have one. Please contact the office the weekend before to confirm attendance.

RYA Basic First Aid
One day course
Our one-day course covers all the usual first aid subjects, but from a boating perspective. It is aimed at anyone who goes afloat, whether on inland waters, rivers, estuaries or on cross channel passages. This is the recommended course for those looking to gain their RYA Dinghy or Powerboat Instructor Qualification.

ICC (International Certificate of Competence)
One day course
For those looking to charter that have lots of experience but no formal qualifications this is the course for you. We have teamed up with Chichester Marine Training who will run the course from ISC. The day is aimed at those comfortable handling a cruising yacht and over the day you will be assessed on your knowledge and ability. The day will cover pre-start checks and safety briefing, berthing, close quarters manoeuvres, handling under sail, man overboard practice, revision of the collision regulations, navigation techniques and pilotage.

RYA Powerboat Level 2
Two day course
This course provides the skills and background knowledge required by a competent powerboat driver and is the basis for the International Certificate of Competence. It includes boat handling, close quarters handling, leaving and coming alongside, high speed manoeuvres, man overboard recovery and collision regulations. This course is a pre-requisite for members wishing to be included on our paid support drivers list. Minimum age 12. Candidates under the age of 16 will be issued with an endorsement.

RYA Dinghy Instructor Course
Five day course
This course is to train experienced small boat sailors and assess their competence to teach dinghy sailing to adults and children. It assumes candidates are competent and experienced small boat sailors, capable of sailing a dinghy confidently in strong winds and handling small powerboats. Prerequisites for this course are good standard of dinghy sailing, RYA Powerboat Level 2, valid First Aid certificate, as well as RYA Safe and Fun Safeguarding Certificate. In order to be accepted for training, candidates will have to pass a Pre-Assessment which takes the form of a practical sailing test in a double handed dinghy conducted by an RYA Coach/Assessor.
