Junior Training Week
Junior Training Week 1 Monday 11th July to Friday 15th July 2016
Junior Training Week 2 Monday 18th July to Friday 22nd July 2016
PLEASE NOTE that Week 2 is now fully booked. Sorry!
Week 1 will be solely aimed at beginners and intermediates aged 8 to 12 years in Mirrors.
Week 2 will be aimed at beginners, intermediates and will develop racing techniques for the more competent sailors. In 2016 we will include Toppers and Mirrors for week 2 so the upper age limit is 14.
The courses will be headed up by Melvyn Cooper, an RYA Senior Instructor. Melvyn has very successfully led MTWs since 2013 as well as providing private coaching to ISC sailors. He is passionate about helping sailors gain confidence and improve their skills in dinghy sailing.
Melvyn will be supported by a team of qualified RYA Instructors (Team Leaders and Assistant Instructors) and experienced Assistant Sailors, all of whom are Itchenor Sailing Club members. The Assistant Sailors will be on hand to sail with less experienced helms and crews when necessary and on days when wind conditions are stronger.
The Programme for each week of JTWs will be tailored to the abilities of the children attending. There will be an emphasis on developing sailing independence and improving confidence on the water. For the more experienced sailor, there will be a focus on improving specific helming/crewing skills and the start of racing skills. The older children in Week 2 will focus on the progression of intermediate racing skills to a higher standard.
And most importantly… JTWs provide lots of fun and excitement out on the water and the opportunity to make new friends! These weeks are a great way for new members with children wanting to sail Mirror or Topper class at Junior Fortnight to meet current, and similarly minded sailors of the same age.
A fee of £270 is payable which includes the one week course and lunch each day with a drink and snack on return each afternoon. There are two course dates to choose and children may attend one or both weeks.
